The Union Flour Mill was located on the west-side of Queen Street, it was the third mill to be erected in New Plymouth. Construction began in 1847 and it was completed by the end of the year when a 'subscription ball' was held to celebrate the achievement.
The large granary and seed store was built next to the mill in 1873. It was sold to the Crown Dairy Company in 1899 and shortly afterward the mill was demolished. This plan (DP1293), drawn in 1899 clearly marks the location of the mill and grain store. (ICS Pre 300,000 Cadastral Plan Index - imaged by LINZ)
The mill site is now a grassed area, near the Mangaotuku Stream.
