This drinking fountain, also known as the bubble fountain due to its distinctive shape, is located in the children's playground adjoining the public swimming baths on Page Street in Stratford.
Designed by Hāwera architects John Duffill and Graeme Laurenson, the fountain was funded by a donation of £300 from Stratford furniture maker Edward Douglas Evans (1888-1948).
Shortages of steel and cement during the Second World War meant that construction was delayed but the fountain was eventually erected in 1946 with its fluted pedestal made of reinforced concrete and the base - featuring surrounding steps for small children - surfaced with ceramic tiles.
