Text of Plaque 1

TE HENUI BRIDGE

1842 - By this date a substantial bridge had been erected by the settlers.

1849 - The original bridge  was rebuilt in timber.

1904 - The bridge was again rebuilt in timber with composite trusses on concrete abutments.

1931 - The bridge was widened with a concrete arch on the northern side.

1968 - The timber portion was reconstructed in concrete on the 1904 abutments.
