This villa was probably constructed for Alexander James McIntosh in 1903 or early 1904. McIntosh had purchased the Strandon Estate in 1902, subdividing the property, and creating Ronald Street.

The home was one of a number of McIntosh's properties advertised for sale by tender in July 1904 and was described as a ‘recently erected 9 roomed residence’. The home doesn’t appear to have sold at this time.

The property was for sale as McIntosh was moving Invercargill to take a position as manager of the Bank of Australasia - he was previously the bank manager in New Plymouth. However, the McIntosh’s don’t seem to have stayed long in Invercargill – Alexander was involved in an alleged fraud case in New Plymouth in 1906, and this may be the reason they returned.

Alexander died at his residence in Strandon on 8 June 1912, survived by his wife, Mrs M. A. McIntosh, and one son.
