This attractive square fronted villa was probably constructed for H. J. V. Hasluck in the early 1900s. Hasluck purchased Lot 10 of this subdivision of Part of Town Belt A from 'Wright' in May 1902 - he retained ownership of the section until his death in early 1907, when ownership presumably passed to his wife. This portion of the section was sold to N. Cantell in October 1917.
This home has high streetscape value, with a particular feature being the front sash windows with divided upper panes. It is part of a row of three early 1900s homes now uncommon in New Plymouth. These homes were close to the location of the engine sheds (located near where Kawaroa Close is now) and may have been rented by railways workers.
The Hasluck's lived at 95 Belt Road and appear to have owned property across New Plymouth. A number of advertisements for houses to let are listed in the Taranaki Herald and Taranaki Daily News in the 1900s and 1910s - the contact is W. Hasluck, and later Mrs Hasluck, Belt Road.
Relocated to 67A Ngamotu Road February/March 2018.
