This large 1900s double bay villa was constructed by owner J. W. Tong in 1902. A permit for the building was granted by the Borough Council in May 1902, with an estimated construction cost of £290.
Along with nearby villas on Mt Edgecumbe, Vivian and Powderham Streets, this building is part of a cluster of homes clearly illustrating the development of the villa from a simple square box with a front addition (precursor to the bay villa), to the more ornate home we commonly associate with villas - all within a relatively short time period (1890s to early-1900s).
