This English Domestic Revival style house was constructed for Keith Ward in 1934. The house was designed by New Plymouth architecture firm Griffiths and Stephenson (Horace Victor Griffiths and William Newton Stepheson), who advertised for tenders for the construction of a two-storey house in Shortland Street during September 1934.

A permit was granted to Keith Ward on 16 October 1934 for the construction of a residence on Town Section 1252 Shortland Street - the builders were Jones and Sandford, and the estimated construction cost was £1116.
