21 Richmond Street. Hamish Crimp (2017).
This villa was likely constructed in the 1900s and was home to Joseph Hooker for a short period from about 1910 until 1914, after which it appears to have been rented for a time.
Joseph Hooker, a New Plymouth printer and lithographer, first appears as living in Fitzroy in 1910. A few years later he relocated to Auckland, and in July 1914 the house was advertised for let 'formerly occupied by Mrs Jessie Hooker'.
The style of the house seems to indicate that Frank Messenger may have been the architect.
Miss Marie Adele Avery is listed as the ratepayer for lots 76-79 during the 1909-10 rating year, with the property valued at £716.
Mrs Jessie Hooker is listed as the ratepayer for lots 76-79 during the 1911-12 rating year, with the property valued at £818.
