This restored villa is one of several character homes along this section of Devon Street West. Plans for a residence for James Frederick Lepine on Town Section 206 were deposited with the Borough Council in April 1912; the estimated construction cost was £549.

James Lepine, a steward at the Taranaki Club, died suddenly at his residence on 13 March 1915.

Whilst the rear section has been renovated, the front section retains much of its original character.
