A permit for a residence for Mr Auld, on Town Section 552, Barrett Street, was granted by the Borough Council on 17 April 1914 - the estimated construction cost was £545.
The home was likely designed by prominent local architecture firm Sanderson and Griffiths, who placed advertisements in the Taranaki Herald and Taranaki Daily News in early April 1914 calling for tenders for the erection of a residence in Barrett Street.
