A permit was granted by the Borough Council to A. (Alf) West on 13 September 1935 for the construction of a residence on Section 49, Corner of Record and Witako Streets - Cleland & Sons were the builders, and the estimated construction cost was £600.
The home is in relatively original condition, retaining original wooden windows and chimney. Record Street is one of New Plymouths most intact character streets, consisting primarily of bungalows.
