A permit for the construction of a 'residence' on Part Sections 991 and 992, Gover and Lemon Streets, was granted to builder Percy Jury by the New Plymouth Borough Council in August 1909. The architect was listed as Percy Jury, and the estimated construction value of the house was £350.
This villa was one of three homes constructed for P Jury on Town Sections 991 and 992 in 1908 and 1909. 58 and 60 Gover Street were probably the first two homes constructed in 1908, and 62 Gover Street was probably constructed later in 1909.
The roof profile of this home has for some reason been altered - it was originally identical to that of neighbouring 58 and 60 Gover Street.
