A permit was granted by the Borough Council to Jones and Sandford Ltd on 14 September 1935 for the construction of a house on Part Town Section 1693, Gilbert Street – Jones and Sandford Ltd were the builders, and the estimated construction cost was £1000.

The house was designed by the Jones and Sandford co-founder, Mr.W.H. Jones, for New Plymouth Boys' High School teacher, Wit Alexander. It was then owned by the Johnstone family, followed by New Plymouth architect, Ian Pritchard and his wife, Chris. They advertised the house for sale in 1997.
