A permit for a residence for J. Drake on Town Section 1659, Gover Street, was granted by the Borough Council on 19 October 1923 - the builder was S. R. Smith, and the estimated construction cost was £1310.
Noted New Plymouth architects Messenger, Griffiths and Taylor designed the home, with tenders called for in late August 1923.
