This villa was originally the home of Lewis James Blanchett and his family. The exact construction date is currently unknown, but it probably dates to the late-1900s or early-1910s and may have been constructed on the occasion of Lewis' marriage to Miss Mildred Kate Black in 1911.

The couple were living at this house in George Street in 1912, when the birth of their child was announced. A rates book for circa 1912-13 notes Lewis Blanchett as the ratepayer fo Section 25 of Town Belt C in Vogletown - the rateable value at this time was £27.
