This three-storey building was built in 1905 for New Plymouth general merchants, Burgess, Fraser & Company. The architect was James Sanderson and the builder, Mr J. Morris.
A building permit for the combined office and warehouse was issued on 3 March 1905 with the estimated cost being £2,298. It was described this way in the Taranaki Herald, "The general design is Italian....has a handsome architectural effect and is the best and most up-to-date of its kind in this part of the Island".
Located on the corner of Currie and Gill Streets, it was demolished in March 1966. The New Zealand Insurance Company then erected new premises on the site.
Puke Ariki holds the original plans (ARC2009-60).
