This attractive two-story corner villa was constructed for "Mr Teed" in 1903. A permit for a "Residence" on Town Section 63 was granted by the Borough Council in late February 1903, with the architect listed as Louis Bullot, and an estimated cost of construction £675.
Chemist David Teed Snr, founder of Teed & Co Chemists New Plymouth, purchased Town Section 63 in June 1889, and retained ownership of the property until his death in 1918. The property was sold to F. E. Jellyman in March 1920, and on-sold again to 'Hoffman' in December 1920. Ownership was transferred to other members of the Hoffman family in both 1921 and 1927, with the property staying in the Hoffman family until at least 1927.
It is part of a group of 1900s-1910s two-story homes near the intersection of Hine and Weymouth Streets - homes of this age and size are uncommon in New Plymouth.
A large Pohutukawa was a feature of the Hine Street frontage of the property for many years - this was removed in 2016.
