Located on Town Section 210, the exterior of this attractive villa is in largely original condition, clad in plain weatherboard with sash windows. It is part of a group of late nineteenth and early twentieth century homes on this part of Devon Street West.
Section 210 was purchased by J. T. Mannix in April 1899, and the present house was constructed soon after this date, with the current villa clearly marked on a plan of Section 210 surveyed in February 1900 (see DP 1436). The architect and builder was likely J. T. Mannix, as he worked as both an architect and builder around this time.
Puke Ariki holds a Mannix family photograph album, with images of this villa and of J. T. Mannix - including one of him as a child in Limerick, Ireland. (ARC2002-12)
