This bungalow cottage was constructed for Ms Ruth Harriett White in 1923.

A permit was granted to Ms White by the Borough Council on 3 February 1923 for the construction of a house on Town Section 1573 (should be Section 1596), Cameron Street – W. H. Aburn was the builder, and the estimated construction cost was £800.

This house was the birthplace for many New Plymouth babies, with Sister Ruth Harriett White operating a private maternity hospital from the house for a number of years.

Sister White never married and remained living in the house until her death on 5 December 1958; she is buried in Te Hēnui Cemetery.
