The New Plymouth Bus Centre in Ariki Street was officially opened 27 October 2004. It was designed by the firm Boon, Goldsmith Bhaskar Team Architecture.
The location and design were not without controversy - see documents below. However, in November 2005 the design won an award in the New Zealand Institute of Architects Resene Local Awards for Architects. The judges said the architects clearly had fun with the bus centre project, creating an exuberant, playful building. (Taranaki Daily News 14 November 2005)
