A permit was granted by the Borough Council to the Ngamotu Lodge on 28 April 1934 for the construction of a 'temple' on Part Town Section 956, corner Leach and Liardet Streets - Jones and Sandford were the builders, and the estimated construction cost was £2614.
The architects were Griffiths & Stephenson - plans held by Puke Ariki (ARC2008-199).
In April 1934 the Taranaki Daily News reported that Jones & Sandford had begun work on the new building. The foundation stone was laid by the Provincial Grand Master, Rt. Worshipful Bro. J. McAllister on 16 June 1934.
The Taranaki Daily News reported in late September that an "installation ceremony" was held in the building, the first official ceremony to be held there.
The building was demolished in the late 1980s or early 1990s. This corner section is now part of the New World supermarket carpark.
