This building on the corner of Brougham and King Streets was built in 1904 for the seed merchants “Rowe & Paterson”. A building permit was issued for a 'Building in Wood' on Town Section 2337 on 18 April 1904. The contractors were Boon Bros. and the approximate cost was £1600. It was designed by noted New Plymouth architect, James Sanderson.
Although it appears ownership of the building changed several times, the business remained that of seedsmen and general produce merchants.
The building was demolished - along with several others - in 1956 to make way for the combined “War Memorial Hall, New Plymouth Library and Taranaki Museum” (now Puke Ariki).
