This brick building was located at 20 Ngamotu Road and was likely built for the Texas Oil Company in 1929. A tender advertisement was placed in the Taranaki Daily News on 1 August 1929 inviting tenders for the "Texas Company's New Plymouth Depot". Interested parties were invited to meet with Mr. F. Hicks at the Criterion Hotel for more information. It's not known if Hicks was the architect or merely a representative of Texas Oil.
On 19 August 1929 a building permit was issued to the Texas Oil Company for the construction of an oil store and pump house on Ngamotu Road at an estimated cost of £1,500. On 2 January 1930 the Taranaki Daily News, in a report about the building trade in 1929 listed, along with other commercial buildings, "an oil store at Ngamotu for the Texas Oil Company".
It was later known as the Shell Oil Store. The building was demolished in 2016.
