Thomas Sole’s Cottage no.2, 253 Courtenay Street. Hamish Crimp (2017).
This cottage is thought to date from the late nineteenth century and was likely constructed for early settler Thomas Sole.
The cottage was rented out by Thomas Sole and the 1895 edition of the Stones Street Directories indicates that Miss Rosina Caldwell was probably residing at this location.
Following Thomas Sole's death in 1909, it appears ownership of the cottage was transferred to his daughter, Rose Sole.
The front of the cottage is clad in rusticated weatherboard and retains two sash windows. The sides are currently clad in fibrolite but were likely originally clad in plain weatherboard.
When the section was subdivided in the 1930s, it was noted on DP5185 that the cottage was either to be removed, or the building cut back to the chimney - this clearly never happened.
