W. N. Stephenson Residence, 24 Baring Terrace. Hamish Crimp (2017).
Located in a prominent position on Baring Terrace, overlooking the Te Henui River, and with views towards New Plymouth, this home was designed by New Plymouth architect William Newton Stephenson in 1920.
A permit for the home on Town Section 2316 (should be 2315) was granted by the Borough Council in July 1920, with the estimated cost of construction being £1000.
W. N. Stephenson commenced practicing architecture on his own in New Plymouth in September 1920. He fought in the First World War, and on his return worked for local architecture firm Messenger and Griffiths (Frank Messenger & Horace Victor Griffiths); Stephenson would later enter into partnership with Griffiths.
