This narrow two-storey building on the north-side of Devon Street East was erected for the milliner, Miss Maud Hunt, in 1923. A building permit was issued on 8 January for the construction of a shop on town section 903. Boon Bros. were the builders, and the estimated cost was £1200.
A year after her death, in October 1942, the building - known as the Waverley Building - sold at auction for £1300. It was described as having, "a shop in front, with rear premises and a basement and living apartments on the upstairs floor."
Mrs Emmett is recorded as having an antique shop on the ground floor in the early 1950s.
The retail premises on ground level have seen a variety of tenants since then including a hair salon, a clothing boutique and tattoo parlour amongst others.
