In the late 1960s Riddick Bros and Still bought a number of properties on the south side of Gill Street for an industrial subdivision. All but one of the houses (eight in all) were demolished, the other was sold for removal.

A permit for this villa at 158 Gill Street was issued to H. Way on 20 June 1911 (estimated cost £372) and for many years was the home of Henry and Florence Way. In 1958 the Taranaki Herald reported that the couple, then celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary, started married life in a cottage on the same site as this villa.

Henry Way died in 1959 and his wife the following year.

The house was demolished in January 1973 to make way for a single-storey 6068 sq. ft. warehouse.
