Westown Butchers Shop (1922)

A building permit issued on 25 January 1922 to Mr Marshall for a “Butchers Shop” on section 16 of “Golf Links”. The estimated cost was £360.00.

“Golf Links" relates to the fact that until 1912 the New Plymouth Golf Club had a nine hole course –Witiora - on land bordering Tukapa Street.

Among NPDC records there is a sketch plan and notes associated with the building. The notes refer to a Mr Marshall and may indicate how the shop looked when first built.

The departure of Murray "Buzz" Sattler in 2017 marked the end of the trade in these premises. The store remained empty for some years before eventually re-opening (about 2021) as "Naki Nekta", a vape shop. (2024)
