This two-storey villa was constructed for New Plymouth businessman Hal Goodacre (1856 - 1918) and his family in 1899. Goodacre was the owner of the successful New Plymouth firm "The Egmont Boot and Shoe Company'.
Notable New Plymouth architect Frank Messenger called for tenders for the construction of a residence for Mr Hal Goodacre in April 1899.
