A pitsawn timber-framed single-storey cottage, typical of the early days of New Plymouth settlement. Located in an area known as Devonport (4-6 Young Street) - the area loosely bound by St Aubyn, Dawson, Young and Queen Streets.
It was described in the NPDC Heritage Study (1995) as having "great historical significance as it provides a tangible link with the early years of the settlement....one of the few examples left (and the only one in the central city)".
In April 1998 it was moved off its site and relocated to 564 Mangorei Road.
