This gaudy tea towel is a reminder of the time when the big glass flagon filled with a local brew was king.
Taranaki Ale, brewed in New Plymouth by Taranaki Brewery Ltd, was quaffed in pubs and homes around the region for many years and the claim on this tea towel from the 1960s that it was "for all occasions" does probably not overstate the case in some households.
Taranaki Ale continued to be produced until the 1990s even though the new owner, Dominion Breweries, stopped brewing it in New Plymouth in 1971.
