This residence on Hamlet Street was built for the Stratford lawyer, Percy Thomson soon after he arrived in the town to set up his legal practice.
It was designed by the prominent Hāwera architect, John A. Duffill, in 1911. The contractors were Messrs J. Ryan and Son and the the contract price was expected to be about £1,000.
In 1924 the Stratford Evening Post (8 November, p.4) announced a garden party was to be held in the grounds of Mr Thomson's property and that "he has one of the finest show of rhododendrons in the Dominion, and the grounds have many other beautiful features".
Percy Thomson lived in the house until his death in 1962.
