This church on the main street of Eltham was originally known as the Knox Presbyterian Church.

Mr George Moir donated the land and construction was completed on 17 April 1900 at a cost of £480. In February 1901 the church was dedicated by the Rev. Bertram of Hāwera.

On 5 August 1975 a decision was made between the Presbyterians and the Methodists to form a co-operating parish. The union came into effect on 1 February 1976. It was decided to retain Knox Church and after a complete refurbishment (including the new foyer) it re-opened as St Mark's on Sunday 8 April 1979.

In February 2016 the church and land was advertised for sale. The ownership is likely to now be in private hands.
