Fund-raising for this Presbyterian church started as far back as 1911, although it was not opened until 16 June, 1926.

The architects were Duffill & Gibson of Hāwera and the plans are in the archives at Puke Ariki. (ARC2004-1390)

It was built with bricks left over from the Hāwera Hospital project and by the builder of the hospital. His fee was paid by the Duirs family and he was helped by voluntary labour. This contribution and other donations allowed the church to remain debt free throughout its life.

The last service was held in 1988. The building has now become a private residence.
