Awakino - Tainui War Memorial (1920)

A meeting was held in the Awakino Hall in August 1919 and a committee formed to source funds for the Awakino-Tainui War Memorial. On 5 November 1919 the Taranaki Daily News reported that the memorial was nearly finished, the work being done by Tom Bevan, with Just Mortensen assisting and supervised by Mr T. Wolfe.

The memorial consists of a white concrete arch and flagpole outside the Awakino Hall to honour the men of the Tainui area who gave their lives in the First and Second World Wars. The memorial was unveiled on 23 January 1920.
