Brixton Memorial Hall (Former 1953) /Ratapiko Hall (2006)

The completion of the hall was a major undertaking for the small district on the outskirts of Waitara. It was originally erected on Tate Road, Lot 2 DP7921. 

Work began on the building in August 1951, by which time the community had raised £1,500 - this was supplemented by the Government's £ for £ subsidy available for war memorial projects. Local voluntary labour was used in the construction, under the supervision of Mr K. MacRae. 

A crowd of 500 arrived on 21 June 1953 to see the hall officially opened by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr W.A. Bodkin, and a memorial plaque unveiled by the president of the New Plymouth RSA, Mr N.J. Turner. The New Plymouth City Band attended the ceremony and there was a parade of ex-servicemen from the district. 

The final meeting of the Brixton Memorial Hall Society was held on 14 April 2004. In March 2006 the hall was shifted to Ratapiko to replace their hall which was destroyed by a fire on 13 November 2003.
