The Pungarehu War Memorial Baths are located at the end of Domain Road. Mr W. Corbett, the chairman of the baths construction committee, was instrumental in persuading the directors of the dairy factory to gift the site (originally the factory dam) to the Domain Board.

The baths were built using locally sourced materials and voluntary labour under the supervision of a local carpenter, Mr George Noble and the County Engineer.

The War Memorial Baths were officially opened on 16 December 1950 by Mr W.T. Vaughan (President of the New Plymouth branch of the Returned Services Association) who unveiled a stone plaque set in to the edge of the baths which read, "1950 memorial baths, erected in honour of those who served during the great wars of 1914-18 and 1939-45".
