The grandstand at Taumata Park in Eltham was erected in 1957 as a memorial to the servicemen and women from Eltham who lost their lives during the Second World War. A plaque depicting an airman, a soldier and a sailor with the words Pro Patria: 1939-1945 is located above the players' entrance to the grandstand.

It was opened by Egmont Member of Parliament Ernest Bowyer Corbett on 16 March 1957. The dedication service was conducted by Padre E.R. le Couteur, representing the Eltham Ministers' Association.

Note: This date is different to the one on the heritage trail sign.
