Waitara's memorial to the  men of the district killed in the First World War was unveiled on Anzac Day in 1923 by Colonel C. H. Weston. Located at Memorial Place, off McLean Street, it is almost directly opposite the obelisk commemorating local troopers who died in the South African War. In 1949, the names of 33 Second World War dead were added.
