The Armed Constabulary and Pātea Field Force Monument, located in the Manaia Octagon, was unveiled on Easter Monday 26 April 1886 by Lieut-Colonel J.M. Roberts, Commander of the Armed Constabulary.

The monument was constructed by Messrs. Twigg & Co. and was finished well ahead of the planned unveiling. In December 1885 it was reported that the granite had been shipped from Aberdeen in Scotland and described in some detail how the funds were secured for the monument.

The memorial was originally erected in the centre of the Octagon but was moved to the western side in 1920-21 to accommodate the WWI obelisk.

The monument featured in Kelvin Day's "Of passing interest" series in 2014.
