This grandstand at the Manaia Domain was built by local carpenter L.G. Neilson in 1909 for £173.

It was superseded by a new stand which was officially opened by South Taranaki District Mayor Mary Bourke on 24 July 1993.

By 2005 the original grandstand had become derelict (TDN 14 December 2005) and was removed in early 2006. On 17 December 2005 the Taranaki Daily News published a feature article by David Bruce about the doomed grandstand.
