Lot 4 of Deeds Plan 21 was purchased by Mrs Henrietta Matilda Buckman from Thomas Kingwell Skinner in November 1909. Henrietta was the wife of John Buckman, a New Plymouth builder, who likely constructed this villa soon after purchasing the property - and before it was sold to G (?) Weston in late February 1910.
Weston only owned the property for a short period, before it was sold to B. Stables in October 1910. During Weston's ownership, the house appears to have been rented by Harry Gilboy - an auction of Gilboy's furniture and effects was held at his residence on November 23, 1910, following the sale of the property to Stables.
Stables rented the property to a number of different people, and retained ownership until March 1918, when it was purchased by S. Metcalf, who soon on-sold the property to Joseph John Gyde in November 1919. Gyde lived in the house until his death on 1 March 1931, aged 69 years.
124 Hine Street is important as part of an uncommon, continuous row of villas in New Plymouth.
