Constructed during 1914 by New Plymouth bricklayer Robert Evans, 376 Devon Street East is one of New Plymouth’s earliest houses to be constructed in the bungalow style (this style did not become popular until the 1920s), and a rare local example of an all-brick dwelling. It retains a high degree of integrity for a New Plymouth building of this age.

In September 1914, a permit for a residence for R. Evans on Town Section 2036 was granted by the Borough Council, with the estimated construction cost being £500.

The house was demolished in 2020.
