This large single-storey villa was constructed for Samuel Wesley Jackson in 1907.
Town Section 247 was purchased by the Primitive Methodist Church in 1897, and the property subdivided a few years later. In January 1903, Newton King advertised the sale of a number of freehold and leasehold sections on behalf of the Primitive Methodist Church Trustees - Part Town Section 147 and several surrounding sections were advertised with 21-year leases.
Samuel Wesley Jackson purchased the lease of Lots A and B of Deeds Plan 46 in June 1906, and a year later, on 22 May 1907, was granted a permit for the construction of a residence by the Borough Council - the architect is listed as L. Jackson, and the estimated construction cost was £598.
Samuel Jackson, rather unfortunately, died aged 68 in November 1907 - soon after the villa was completed. His wife, Mrs Sarah Jones Jackson, continued to live in the home for some years after her husband's death.
A feature of the property is a large Pohutukawa tree identified as a notable tree by NPDC.
