The White Hart Hotel is located on the corner of Devon Street West and Queen Street. Originally built in 1844, the first White Hart was a six-roomed house used as a hospital by Imperial troops and licensed as a hotel in 1852. The current structure was built in 1887 and has stood the test of time to become a New Plymouth landmark.
The White Hart has experienced a number of alterations and renovations, the most recent in 2011-12 which preserved the facade and modernised the interior. It is registered Category I under the Historic Places Act 1993 and in 2014, as part of its redevelopment process, an archaeological report was completed on the hotel and site.
