This large building on Poplar Grove is a Pentecostal church, part of the nationwide Assemblies of God. The Assembly of God have had a presence in New Plymouth since the mid 1920s and for many years they were located in a large building on Baring Terrace. This was sold in the late 1970s as the church needed a larger space.
The first part of this large complex was erected in 1980, with the official opening taking place on 7 March 1981. The hall was designed by New Plymouth architect, George Richardson.
A large auditorium was added to the hall in 1984.
