Marjorie Maureen Heather Jensen was born Margery Brighouse in Wellington on 6 July 1918. She was adopted by Taranaki couple George Christian Jensen (1883-1959) and Muriel Alice Jensen (nee Waterson) (1886-1958) who changed the spelling of her first name.

Marjorie grew up on the family farm in Matau outside Stratford. She enlisted in 1941 and served with the Women's Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF) at Bell Block aerodrome during the Second World War. Family and friends farewelled her with a dance at Matau, organised by the local branch of the WAAF, that November. Her brother Mervyn Bernard George Jensen (1915-1983) also served with the Royal New Zealand Airforce, training in Canada.

Marjorie married Patrick Henry Bartle (1912-1994) at St Joseph's Church in New Plymouth on 9 February 1943. They made their home in Rotorua and had four children.

Marjorie died in Rotorua on 3 October 2005 aged 87 and is buried in Kauae Cemetery in Ngongotahā.
