Ernest James (Jim) Oliver was born in New Plymouth on 31 January 1917 and was the son of Ernest Arthur and Beatrice (nee Wells) Oliver.
Before the war he lived in Lepperton where he worked as a butcher and married Betty Constance Gredig. He enlisted with the Army in 1942 and served as a gunner.
He died on 30 March 1991 in New Plymouth.
