David Rikihana was born In New Plymouth on 22 March 1919, the son of Takirau (1896-1955) and Ruby (1899-1970) (nee Hamilton/Hunter) Rikihana. He was one of five siblings.
Before World War Two he worked as a labourer in Waitara. During the war he served as a Corporal in the 28th Māori Battalion. His younger brother Pari Rikihana also served with the 28th Māori Battalion and was killed in action in Italy on 7 December 1943.
He died in New Plymouth on 14 January 1985 and is buried in New Plymouth’s Te Henui Cemetery.
