Taipari (Pari) Rikihana was born in Opunake on 20 August 1921, the son of Takirau (1896-1955) and Ruby (1899-1970) (nee Hamilton/Hunter) Rikihana. He was one of five siblings.
Before the war he worked as a butcher’s assistant in Waitara. During World War Two he served as a Private with the 28th Māori Battalion, as did his elder brother, David Rikihana.
He was killed in action on 7 December 1943 in Italy and is buried in the Sangro River War Cemetery, Italy.
